Is Golden Reports a dashboard or BI tool?
No. It's a reporting platform. Dashboards are great for visualizing metrics and trends. Golden Reports is for structured reports, forms, and data layers with business logic, permissions, and workflows built in. You can build dashboards inside it, but that's not the main focus.
Can I still build dashboards with Golden Reports?
Absolutely. You can build charts, summaries, dashboard-style views. The difference is they're backed by real data layers and reusable logic instead of ad-hoc queries. Your dashboards become part of a system, not standalone widgets.
How is Golden Reports different from tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Looker?
Those tools are visualization-first. Great for exploring data. Not great for reusable business logic, versioning, fine-grained permissions, or embedding deeply into your own product.
When can I use it?
Join the waitlist and we'll notify you when Early Access opens. The core platform will be fully functional: report editor, data contexts, permissions, versioning. The visual drag-and-drop schema editor is still in progress, but you can build everything with code from day one.
What exactly counts as a query?
One query is one report execution: one GraphQL query run against a data context. Every time a report loads data, that's one query counted. It doesn't matter how many data sources the data context binds to internally. Cached results never count against your limit.
Who is Golden Reports for?
SaaS and engineering teams who need reporting inside their product. If your reports involve business logic, permissions, reuse, or workflows that change over time, this is built for you.
How is this different from other reporting tools?
Most tools treat reports as throwaway queries. Golden Reports treats them as versioned, permissioned assets with shared data layers. Build once, reuse everywhere. Visual designer or code, your choice.
Is there a free trial?
No trial, but the Community tier is free forever. One user, one workspace, one project. Enough to build real reports and see if it fits your workflow. Upgrade when you need more.
Does Golden Reports replace our existing analytics tools?
Probably not. Most teams keep their dashboards for exploration and monitoring, and use Golden Reports for operational and embedded reporting inside their apps. They complement each other.
Is Golden Reports only for large enterprises?
Nope. Works for early-stage products and large orgs alike. Small teams get cleaner structure early. Larger teams get governance and reuse as complexity grows.
What data sources are supported?
Postgres at launch via our connector plugin system. SQL Server, REST, GraphQL, and gRPC connectors are on the roadmap. The architecture is plugin-based from day one.
Can I embed reports in my own app?
Yes. That's what Golden Reports is built for. Drop a report into React, Angular, or plain HTML with a single component. Reports render natively in your app, not in an iframe or redirect.
How does pricing work?
All tiers include embedding and unlimited viewers. You pay based on builders (people who create reports), embedded apps (where you deploy), and query volume. Community is free with 3 builders and 1,500 queries/month. Startup is $159/mo billed annually (or $199/mo billed monthly) and adds 5 builders, 20,000 queries, and scheduled delivery. Business is $359/mo billed annually (or $449/mo billed monthly) and adds 10 builders, 60,000 queries, 5 embedded apps, and audit logs. Enterprise is custom pricing for unlimited scale.
Can I set a cap on overage charges?
Yes. On paid tiers you can set a monthly overage cap in your account settings. Once you hit it, queries stop executing instead of running indefinitely. We will never charge you more than you authorized. No surprise bills.
